Photocopy of the first of three Civil War letter written by Alfred Walker, who was serving in the Bossier Cavalry, to his father, Benjamin Walker, who lived in Bossier Parish. Letter sent from the Vicksburg Encampment on April 14, 1862. Summary: Alfred writes to tell his father that they are going to leave Vicksburg the next morning at seven, and can only take one change of clothes. He tells his father that his horse, sword, saddle, gun and bridle were appraised at $200, and if his horse gets killed, he will be reimbursed for him. |
