Article about the assault of Deputy Sheriff J.A. Edwards. Headlines: "Jail Delivery! Negroes Murderously Assault Deputy Sheriff and Make Their Escape into Woods. Posses in Pursuit - Officer Lies at Point of Death. Big Reward for Escapes, Dead or Alive" 3 prisoners at the Bossier Parish jail in Benton attacked the Deputy Sheriff with a pipe as he was bringing water to all of the jail's prisoners. Edwards' skull was fractured. Two other prisoners, the Majors brothers, attempted to stop the escapees, but were unsuccessful. Edwards was taken to Schumpert Sanitarium in Shreveport for care.
