Report of the Grand Jury for the Sept Term To the Honorable Andrew Lawson, Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial District of the State of Louisiana and now in , and sitting for the Parish of Bossier, we the Grand Jurors in and for the Parish and State aforesaid, beg leave to report that we, the said jurors, have on this the eight of September and year of AD eighteen hundred and fifty three, examined the Prison of the aforesaid Parish and sent the situation and treatment of the prisoner, who is now the only inmate, we respectfully submit that we consider the prison unsafe and that the situation and treatment of the said prisoner is as good as the circumstances will admit. We further report that we have carefully investigated all cases presented and found [?] in all cases, where we were satisfied that it would bear in action in court. We have also inquired into the management and distribution of the public school funds and find [?] no misapplication of said funds. We also further report that we have, from a list of the overseers of the roads of this Parish, inquired into the means in which they have discharged their duty and find no instances of neglect as failure of duty and that we are satisfied, from report, that the roads are now in a better condition than formerly, though some of the roads we learn have not been worked, allowing to the overseers not having received their commissions in due time. Upon the whole we have presented and investigated all cases made our duty when our oaths, your charges, and the council of the district attorneys. Permit us, at the close of our duty to return to your honor, and our worthy district attorney, our sincere thanks for the abilities with which you both discharged your duty, and our respect, as a body and individuals, for your kind and courteous attention and treatment towards us.
