Dr. Gleason was a member of Plain Dealing Baptist Church and was a retired Lt. Commander of the US Navy with 28 years of service to her country. She served in Kodiak, Ala., as the only woman officer of the station. Dr. Gleason graduated from Plain Dealing High School, Class of 1929, graduated from Louisiana Normal State College where she received her bachelor of arts and she also received her Ph.d. from LSU Baton Rouge. She was a school teacher for 10 years, teaching at Benton and Plain Dealing High Schools where she taught English and Latin. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Association for women educators for 65 years and was a member of the Kadelphian Club of Plain Dealing, LA. One of Dr. Gleason's proud accomplishments along with Dr. Donald Shipp helped in the initiation of the opening of LSUS in Shreveport. After 11 years, Dr. Gleason retired from LSUS, Shreveport in 1978 where she had been head of the English Department. |
