Dogwood Queen Rebecca Purcell receives the Dogwood scepter from Patricia Baker in 1963. Traditionally, the previous year's queen handed the symbol of her reign, the Dogwood scepter, over to the newly crowned queen. The scepter was carried by the queen to other festivals, where, as goodwill ambassadors, they represented Plain Dealing.-- Note from History Center Presentation. |
