But what was once a "bedroom community" now has turned into a bustling city, notes former Mayor James L. Cathey, who headed the city from 1973 until 1977 - the year current Mayor Marving Anding was elected. Cathey - who now is a volunteer with the Bossier council on Aging - credits Bossier's recent growth spurt to the five year growth plan laid down under his administration. "We feel like we've set the wheels into motion for a great future for Bossier City, as far as growth is con= cerned," Cathey said. "I believe that in Bossier the growth is going to be real good - it can't do anything but go up," he added. "I feel like - and this is not tongue-in-cheek - we started the growth with our five-year program." Cathey summed up his feelings about Bossier City that perhaps also was felt by the city's other mayors as they each pitched in to mature a bawdy river community into a growing, bustling city. "It's just a doggone good place to live." Marvin Anding, Bossier's current mayor, is in his fifth year as the city's chief executive. He is also the first, and only, mayor to serve under the mayor-council form of government adopted in 1977. |
