Watercolor of William Giroud Burt in his confederate uniform, c.1860s. William Giroud Burt is one of only two Civil War colonels buried in Bossier Parish. He was born Edgefield, South Carolina, February 11, 1843, and died at his plantation home, Utopia, August 29, 1890. At the age of 17 he entered the Confederate Army, and before he was 21 years of age he was promoted from that rank to colonel of the 22nd S.C. Infantry, for "distinguished valor and skill." |
