Description |
Singer treadle sewing machine. Oak and iron cabinet. Gold ornamentation on machine, including a golden sphinx. Significant loss of gold in areas of heavy use. Six drawers in oak base, drawers contained sewing ephemera upon donation, including thread, pins, bobbins, etc. There is a slide of this machine in the education slides book. Singer sewing machines were first manufactured in 1851. Serial numbers on SINGER® sewing machines manufactured prior to 1900 are numbers only. After 1900, the machine serial numbers have a single or two-letter prefix. The serial number on this machine is AA613135. According to the company's list of machine serial numbers, this machine was issued in 1925 and manufactured in Elizabeth, New Jersey. This machine is model number 127 or 128, which featured the shuttle ejector. Various sewing items found in the drawers that have been identified are included in this accession with individual ID #s. Unidentified items are bagged and given this number. |

Left side middle drawer has writing in possibly green colored pencil. "Margaret Wise, April 2, 1931." Along with "MARGIE" in a child's handwriting. One of the original slides of this sewing machine had "Matlock" or "Mattock" written on it. |
